Hours: Part-time (0.5) fixed term contract until 31 March 2011 - and a range of flexible models for the hours of work can be considered
Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 pro-rata, depending on experience
Reports to: Head of Schools Programmes, The Oxford Trust
Location: Based from the Teaching & Learning Centre in Aylesbury, with some flexibility for home working, but also requiring travel around Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes
Background
The Oxford Trust is an independent charitable foundation at the heart of Oxfordshire's science, education and enterprise networks. The Oxford Trust holds the STEMPOINT brokerage contract until 2011 for schools in Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire (MKOB). Through this, we have a responsibility to provide all schools and colleges in this area with impartial advice and guidance on a wide range of curriculum enrichment and enhancement (E&E) activities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM). Our role is designed to complement the support already provided by other partners, including Local Authorities and National Strategy Consultants. The aim is to help increase the quality and quantity of students moving into further STEM education, training and employment and the contract is funded through STEMNET.
Purpose of Role
The Oxford Trust is looking to recruit someone to be the main contact and public face of the STEMPOINT brokerage contract for schools and colleges in Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire. They will be required to proactively connect with schools, colleges, education support organisations, STEM E&E providers and STEM based businesses in this region. They will be responsible for building relationships and developing a STEM E&E brokerage model for advice and guidance that meets the needs of schools and colleges, fits with their agendas and enables them to offer their pupils appropriate STEM E&E schemes and programmes. The Teaching & Learning Centre in Aylesbury has agreed to host the position, but the job could also be partially based from home.
Person Specification
* Good working knowledge of the Education sector, school and college agendas and good understanding of the needs of teachers
* Experience in effective partnership working
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
* Capable of working under own initiative, developing new opportunities and contacts, whilst still liaising effectively with associate staff at The Oxford Trust
* Flexible and happy to travel around the local region as required (full driving licence and car are essential, travel expenses will be covered)
* Availability when teachers want to call or meet i.e. before/after school and often attending twilight meetings
The following attributes are preferred, but are not essential:
STEM background and/or STEM teaching experience
Experience of STEM E&E delivery or provision
Principal Responsibilities
* To be responsible for managing the STEMNET brokerage services in Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire in line with the terms and conditions of the STEMNET contract To work with associate staff at The Oxford Trust to evaluate and develop the effectiveness of the brokerage contract in line with agreed service levels
* To assist with development of an advisory stakeholder forum
* To assist with quarterly self-assessment processes and reporting
* To assess schools existing level of engagement with STEM E&E and explore ways of encouraging ongoing feedback
* To liaise with associate staff at The Oxford Trust to develop a communication strategy to ensure increased awareness of the brokerage and SEAs services for schools and colleges To attend as many local STEM teacher network meetings and conferences as possible in order to promote awareness of the STEMPOINT service and STEM E&E opportunities
* To keep The Oxford Trust updated with staff changes in schools
* To contribute to website developments and regular STEMPOINT newsletters
* To ensure effective communication via LA STEM advisory & national strategy teams
* To ensure that all schools and colleges in the region are given appropriate advice and guidance in order to improve their access to and engagement with STEM E&E activities for pupils To develop comprehensive knowledge of regional and national STEM E&E provision
* To pro-actively contact schools and colleges and respond promptly to brokerage queries
* To be prepared to work flexibly according to the demands of schools and colleges
* To be able to travel throughout the region to meet with teachers and other STEM E&E providers, attending meetings, events and activities as required
* To run key events for teachers to disseminate information and share best practice
* To develop and sustain productive partnerships with appropriate organisations to support the promotion of STEMPOINT services and increase participation in STEM E&E To work effectively with all Milton Keynes and Bucks LA STEM advisory & national strategy teams
* To work effectively with 14-19 Partnerships and relevant Diploma consortia
* To explore and support partnership opportunities that stimulate increased availability of STEM E&E
* To attend local STEM employer forums and enable local STEM employers to make links with schools
* To develop awareness of regional business strategies and the skills needs of STEM employers
* To establish effective liaison with the Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) contract manager for MKOB (The Oxford Trust)
