The Future of Privacy

Tuesday 15 January 2008
The recent loss of millions of people's personal data has pushed the question of "privacy" to the top of the news agenda. Local people will have an opportunity to examine the issues in an event at Science Oxford on Monday 21 January at 7.30pm.

"The Future of Privacy" will tackle questions like whether we should use technology to monitor our family, our colleagues or our friends. The event will be led by Dr Adam Joinson from Bath University, a leading academic into the use of online information.

Dr Joinson says "Modern technology is changing our social relationships at an incredible rate, both in positive and negative ways. I hope that the event will make some of the issues clearer".

Dom McDonald, Head of Public Programmes at Science Oxford, says "This is a key topic which has an impact on everyone's lives, as recent news stories have made clear. Adam's talk will explore the way we are going to have to live, both in private and in public".

The event launches Science Oxford's "Futurescope" series, looking at the impact of future technology on ordinary people. The series includes events on the future of the Internet, Robotics, Transport, and Nanotechnology, and an exhibition looking at the way that digital technology can be integrated into the home. The series is sponsored by Triteq Ltd.
