Getting Creative to Explore the Brain
The human brain was once thought to be a useless lump of flesh, and the Ancient Egyptians favoured the heart. Gradually through time, many discoveries have been made that prove the brain to be our most vital organ, shaping our personalities and governing our lives. At Science Oxford on 30th July, ‘Create a Brain’ for kids and ‘Build a Brain’ for adults will enable participants to use their creativity to interact with this fascinating subject matter and build a brain sculpture out of playdough.

Both workshops are led by Lizzie Burns, a scientist-turned-artist, who has now turned her attention to engaging people with science through the medium of art, and encouraging learning through fun. Participants will take part in activities which include building models of the brain to find out about each part and what it does.

Emma Wightman, Science Oxford’s Exhibition and Events Officer says, "This event is a great way to discover the structure of your brain in three-dimensions, and to find out what all the different parts of your brain do. I'm really looking forward to having a go at making my own brain sculpture!"
